During its meeting in September 2000, the General Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) adopted a decision to establish "April 26 - International Intellectual Property Day".
The right to intellectual property is considered one of the basic rights and freedoms and one of the most important rights of the state. By protecting intangible properties, the state succeeds in human development and thus the development of society as a whole.
Intellectual property rights are also recognized and protected in Azerbaijan. The Constitution, which is the main law of the country, also has a separate article on intellectual property rights. That article states that "everyone has the right to intellectual property. Copyright, invention right and other types of intellectual property rights are protected by law" (Article 30).
The Intellectual Property Agency was established within the framework of the structural and economic reforms carried out in our country. The Intellectual Property Agency implements state policy in the field of copyright, related rights, intellectual property rights (hereinafter "intellectual property rights") to examples of Azerbaijani folklore, integrated scheme topologies and data sets, ensures normative-legal regulation, development of the field of intellectual property. İt is also the central executive power body that coordinates activities in the field.
It should be noted that the state pays special attention to the development of the field of intellectual property and the improvement of legislation in this field. According to the opinion of WIPO and European Union experts, today Azerbaijan is one of the countries in the CIS and Eastern Europe that has an advanced national intellectual property management system and a rich legislative base.
A large book exhibition called "April 26 - International Intellectual Property Day" has traditionally been organized in the National Library.
At the exhibition, books on the subject are displayed in Azerbaijani and other languages.
