Today is the 100th anniversary of the birth of the well-known Avar poet, writer, political figure Rasul Hamzatov.
Rasul Hamzatov was born on September 8, 1923 in the village of Sada, Khunzakh district, Dagestan, in the family of the poet Sadasa Hamzat. His first teacher was his father. Rasul Hamzatov wrote his first poem when he was 11 years old. After graduating from high school, he entered a pedagogical school. In 1943, the first collection of poems "Torch of Love and Bitter Enmity" was published. In 1945-1950, he studied at the Moscow Institute of Literature named after Maxim Gorky. In 1947, the first book of poems in Russian was published.
Rasul Hamzatov was awarded the title of People's Poet, Socialist Hero of Dagestan, as well as the Lenin Prize, the State Prize of Russia and the USSR, the "Best Poet of the 20th Century" international prize, and the Lotus Prize of Asian and African writers.
Although he is a Dagestan poet, he grew up in Dagestan, but he was very attached to Azerbaijan, its people, and his poetry.
Rasul Hamzatov died on November 3, 2003.
On the occasion of the anniversary, the employees of the National Library of Azerbaijan presented a virtual and traditional exhibition called "Rasul Hamzatov - 100" to the users.
In the virtual exhibition, photos, books authored by Rasul Hamzatov, as well as books and articles about him in Azerbaijani and Russian languages, and in the traditional exhibition, books preserved in the collection of the National Library of Azerbaijan, collections of notes composed to the works of the writer, books translated by him, books for which he wrote a foreword, etc. . materials are displayed.
