On May 5, Mazli Malik, member of the Malaysian Parliament, Director of the State Library of Selangor, visited the National Library.The director of the National Library, professor Karim Tahirov, welcomed the guests and said that he was glad to see them in the library.
Malaysian MP Mazli Malik said he wanted to come to the National Library of Azerbaijan earlier, but the meeting took place today. The guest emphasized that before coming to the library, he did a little research about the National Library of Azerbaijan. He collected information about the National Library of Azerbaijan - its history, fund, international relations. He said that as a result of the research, he witnessed that the National Library of Azerbaijan has international relations with about 60 countries of the world. He suggested the signing of a Memorandum on future mutual cooperation between the National Libraries of Malaysia and Azerbaijan. He emphasized, I believe that the memorandum of agreement to be signed in the future will facilitate the exchange of manuscripts and printed books between our libraries, as well as the exchange of mutual experience.
Then, the director of the National Library, professor Karim Tahirov, gave general information about the National Library to the guests and said that the National Library of Azerbaijan is one of the largest libraries in the country. He said that relations between our countries are expanding in the field of culture as well as in all fields. By emphasizing the relationship between the National Libraries of Malaysia and Azerbaijan, he mentioned that in 2017, the director of the National Library of Malaysia visited the National Library of Azerbaijan within the framework of the 5th Baku International Book Fair. The director also emphasized by informing the guests that his visit to Malaysia was planned in 2019, but it did not happen due to the pandemic.
Later, K. Takhirov informed the guests about the "Hall of International Cooperation" of the National Library and said he believes that after the signing of a memorandum of agreement in the future, Malaysian literature will take its rightful place in this corner. Also, he noted that the "Foreign Literature and International Book Exchange" department of the National Library has insufficient literature on Malaysia. He said he believes that this number will increase as a result of mutual book exchange in the future.
Director of the National Library Karim Tahirov donated the books "Azerbaijan National Library: photo album" and "Hello Azerbaijan" to the guest.
At the end, the guests got acquainted with the National Library. They took a commemorative photo in the "Heydar Aliyev Corner", "Hall of International Cooperation", "Rare Books and Library Museum" sections of the library and got acquainted with the library fund.
