On June 30, 2022, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sweden in Baku, Mr. Christian Kamil, visited the National Library of Azerbaijan.
On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Sweden and Azerbaijan, the presentation of the book “Linnaeus Apostles: Global Science and Adventures” was held in the Hall of International Cooperation of the National Library. The book tells about the journey of Linnaeus and his fellow travelers to different continents and their notes about animals, plants, and customs. It consists of the evaluation of his travels on all continents.
The Head of the National Library, prof. Karim Tahirov opened the event and greeted the guests, and expressed his pleasure to see the ambassador in the National Library. He said that it was not a coincidence that the presentation ceremony was held in the Hall of International Cooperation. Emphasizing that there are corners of 14 countries in the Hall of International Cooperation, Karim Tahirov emphasized that he hopes the 15th corner will be Sweden.
"The arrival of Mr. Ambassador to the National Library will stimulate the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the national libraries of the two countries. Also, the books that Mr. Ambassador gave to the National Library today will take their rightful place in the National Library's collection and will be the first books of the corner about Sweden that will be created in the future”, prof. Karim Tahirov noted. Director Karim Tahirov also mentioned that he hopes Sweden-related events and meetings with Swedish writers will be held in front of that corner in the future. In his speech, the head of library spoke about the international relations of the National Library and also informed about the international book exchange between the National Library of Sweden and the National Library of Azerbaijan.
At the same time, he stated that he believes Mr. Christian Kamil will be one of the active readers of the National Library in the future.
Mr. Christian Kamil expressed his gratitude to Prof. Karim Tahirov and noted that today's event is one of a series of events dedicated to the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Stating that there is cooperation between Sweden and Azerbaijan in many fields, Mr. Ambassador expressed his belief that these relations will be further strengthened and developed.
Then, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Sweden and Azerbaijan, Mr. Christian Kamil presented the manuscript and notes of the students of the Swedish traveler and scientist Carl Linnaeus on the nature, culture, history, and ethnography of more than 60 countries of the world “Linnaeus Apostles: Global Science and Adventures” gifted the 8-volume book to the National Library. He especially noted that the newly printed books were first given to the National Library in Azerbaijan.
Prof. Karim Tahirov expressed his gratitude to Mr. Ambassador and said "Azerbaijan National Library, “Photo album” (in Azerbaijani, English, and Russian languages), “Hello, Azerbaijan!” (in English) and the books “Azerbaijani carpets in world collections” (in English) were presented to him.
At the end of the event, a commemorative photo was taken.
