On January 17, an event dedicated to January 20 - the National Day of Mourning was held in the "Open Library" - free reading section operating under the National Library.

The event was attended by 6a grade students of secondary school No. 8 named after K. Karimov. First, the memory of the victims of the January 20 tragedy was commemorated with a minute of silence.

Lala Salahova, head of the "Open Library" - free reading section, said that 35 years have passed since the January 20 tragedy, which is a heroic page in the history of Azerbaijan, and that day demonstrated that the determination of the Azerbaijani people to fight for national freedom cannot be broken by any force.

In the continuation of the event, Safura Ibrahimli, the organizer of extracurricular activities of the school, shared her memories of the tragedy with the participants of the event. She noted that January 20 is not only a day that will be remembered with sadness in the history of the Azerbaijani people, but also a day when our nation was able to demonstrate its heroism. Then, the schoolchildren got acquainted with books and photographs about the January 20 incident, and a student of the class, Jasmin Allahverdiyeva, recited a poem.
