On January 17, an event dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the January 20 tragedy was held at the National Library of Azerbaijan. First of all, the dear memory of our martyrs who lost their lives for the independence of Azerbaijan was commemorated with a minute of silence.
Speaking at the memorial event, Professor Karim Tahirov, Director of the National Library of Azerbaijan, noted that January 20 is both a day of sadness and pride. He said that the blood of the martyrs of January 20 did not remain in the ground, that the foundation of the victory gained in the 44-day Patriotic War was laid precisely on January 20, and that the events of January 20 were an inspiring awakening to the struggle for freedom. He noted that on that date, for the first time, the brave sons of Azerbaijan stood up against the Soviet regime and army, proving to the whole world that we are ready to sacrifice our lives for the sake of the land, people and freedom. In the 44-day Patriotic War, their children were inspired and inspired by this example and liberated our lands. Under the wise leadership of the victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, the Azerbaijani people achieved their desire. Having restored the territorial integrity they had dreamed of for hundreds of years, a whole Azerbaijan was created.
Professor Karim Tahirov, who said that the truths and realities of the January 20 events live in books, said that the main task of the National Library and librarians is to collect, preserve and deliver these historical materials to future generations, and to promote the books written about them to the world through traditional and virtual book exhibitions, as well as electronic databases, so that such historical days are not forgotten.
In the continuation of the event, an electronic database called “January 20 – Our Blood Memory” prepared by the employees of the National Library was presented.
