This year marks the 160th anniversary of the birth of Mirza Alakbar Sabir, a prominent representative of Azerbaijani satirical literature.

Mirza Alakbar Sabir, who gained wide fame as one of the main creators of critical realism in national literature, is one of the most selfless harbingers of humanism and democratic ideas, national awakening and revival in artistic thought. He is known as the founder of the Mollanasraddinchi School of satirical poetry, a powerful representative of satirical poetry in the Turk-Muslim world.

Sabir is the first poet in our new literature who has chosen modern social life as the main theme, boldly analyzed the social structure, created a real, noble, rich types of series of the time.

Sabir is the greatest innovative, militant poet who completely rescued literature from the past superstitious imagination, legends, pleasure, flower-nightingale, entertainment mode and brought it down to the stage of real life and raised it to the level of a modern political and ideological weapon.

Sabir is a genuine folk poet who has great merits in the history of Azerbaijani literature, opened a completely new era in our poetry, touched and conquered the hearts of millions. His immortal satires still live in the minds of readers, they play the role of a cutting weapon in people's active struggle for a new world and a new life.

Sabir's poems always sparkles and shines like an inextinguishable beacon on the path of struggle for freedom and happiness of open-minded, progressive people in everywhere.

An electronic digest named "Mirza Alakbar Sabir - 160" was prepared by the employees of the National Library of Azerbaijan named after M.F. Akhundzade.

In the presented digest (translated from English means "summary", "collective"), articles about the life and work of the famous poet, published in various periodicals in the country in 2020-2022, were examined and brought to attention through selection. The articles are listed by year, and internally in alphabetical order.
