A traditional book exhibition called "Jalil Mammadguluzade-155" was opened in the National Library

The 155th anniversary of the birth of Jalil Mammadguluzadeh (1869-1932), a prominent writer, playwright, journalist, public figure of Azerbaijan.

Mammadguluzade, son of Jalil Mammadgulu, the founder of the critical realist literary trend, the first verse allegorical drama, the "Molla Nasreddin" literary school, the creator of a new type of social satire, was born on February 22, 1869 in Nakhchivan. He received his first education first in the mollakhana, then in the city school of Nakhchivan. On June 7, 1887, he graduated from the Transcaucasia Teachers' Seminary (Gori), and in 1887-1897 he taught in the villages of Iravan province.

He wrote the allegorical play " Çay dəsgahı (Tea set)", which is considered the first known literary work, and the narrative " Danabaş kəndinin əhvalatları (Stories of Danabash village)" during this period.

In 1905-1907, the first booklets " Poçt qutusu (Postbox)", " Usta Zeynal (Master Zeynal)", "Gurbanali Bey", " İranda hürriyyət (Freedom in İran)" were published. In the same year, Jalil Mammadguluzade opened a school and boarding house for Azerbaijani children in Tbilisi.

On April 7, 1906, the first issue of "Molla Nasreddin" magazine was published in Tbilisi. The journal was published intermittently in 1906-1918 in Tbilisi, in 1920-1921 with 8 issues in Tabriz, and in 1922-1931 in Baku. By starting the publication of "Molla Nasreddin" magazine, Jalil Mammadguluzade laid the foundation of satirical journalism in Azerbaijan, as well as in the Middle East.

A traditional book exhibition featuring the works of Jalil Mammadguluzadeh was opened in the National Library. The works of the writer, books written about him in Azerbaijani and different languages ​​are displayed at the exhibition.
