March 27 is International Theater Day. Every year March 27 is celebrated as International Theater Day. This significant day was established based on the decision adopted at the 9th Congress of the International Theater Institute held in Vienna in 1961.
Azerbaijani theater art has passed an ancient and rich historical path. On March 10, 1873, the theater lovers' troupe of the Baku real school performed the comedy "Sarguzeshti-vaziri-khan Lankaran" by M.F. Akhundzade. With this performance, the foundation of the national theater was laid in Azerbaijan. Hasan bey Zardabi and Najaf bey Vazirov played an important role in this glorious work. Haji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev, a famous philanthropist, made a great contribution to the development of the national theater. He built the first theater building in Baku. As a result, Jahangir bey Zeynalov, Huseyngulu Sarabski, Mirzaga Aliyev, Huseyn Arablinski, Ulvi Rajab, Abbas Mirza Sharifzade, Mustafa of the Azerbaijani stage Mardanov, Mammadrza Sheykhzamanov, Agasadig Garaybeyli, Aliagha Agayev, Lutfali Abdullayev, Nasiba Zeynalova, Marziya Davudova, etc. have grown up. A new stage has begun in recent years in the development of the Azerbaijani theater, which has gone through a long and glorious history. This development is primarily due to the material and technical aspects of theaters. strengthening its base in accordance with modern world standards, preparing new interesting plays as a result of creative searches of collectives, expanding the exchange of experience with prestigious Western, including European theaters, etc. shows.
According to tradition, a large book exhibition called "March 27 - International Theater Day" was opened in the National Library on this day.
Books on the history of Azerbaijani theater, the history of International Theater and the life and work of prominent people who have left a mark in the history of theater are displayed in the exhibition.
