On the basis of the decision of UNESCO's International Council for the Protection of Monuments and Landmarks adopted in 1983, April 18 is celebrated as "Historical Monuments Protection Day". The aim is to draw people's attention to the protection of monuments and historical places. On the interstate level, "Historical Monuments Protection Day" was celebrated for the first time on April 18, 1984.

Since the protection of material and moral heritage, which is a part of human culture, is of international importance, their protection is in the center of attention today.

As a result of the humanitarian policy carried out by the state of Azerbaijan, very large and purposeful projects are being implemented in the direction of the discovery, research, protection, restoration and promotion of cultural examples in the international world of the existing historical, religious and cultural monuments in the territory of the republic. All this ensures the integration of Azerbaijan into the global world together with its material and spiritual culture.

A large book exhibition called "April 18 - Day of Protection of Historical Monuments" was organized in the National Library of Azerbaijan. At the exhibition, books on the protection and restoration of the existing historical, religious and cultural monuments of Azerbaijan, world historical monuments, and the promotion of our cultural heritage in the international world are displayed in Azerbaijani and different languages.
