Arif Mir Jalal oglu Pashayev was born on February 15, 1934 in Baku city in an intellectual family. In 1941-1951, he graduated from Baku secondary school No. 164, and in 1951-1954, he was a student of the Moscow Institute of Electrotechnical Communication.

In 1954-1957, he studied radiophysics at the Odessa Institute of Electrotechnical Communication, and from 1959 he started scientific activity at the Institute of Physics of ANAS. In 1960-1964, the outstanding scientist was a graduate student at the "QIREDMET" Institute in Moscow, and in 1966, he defended his candidate's thesis on "Development of non-contact methods and devices for measuring the parameters of semiconductors at high and ultrahigh frequencies", and received the degree of candidate of technical sciences. The scientist, who successfully continued his scientific research, successfully defended his doctoral dissertation on "Physical bases, development principles and application prospects of non-destructive methods in the study of semiconductors" and was awarded the degree of Doctor of Physics-Mathematical Sciences in 1978.

In addition, Academician Arif Pashayev was awarded the State Prize of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the "Inventor of the USSR" medal for his high achievements in the field of physics, the medal named after Academician Y. Mammadaliyev and the gold medal of the International Biographical Center of England, awarded with the international diploma "Well-known scientist of the 21st century" has been done. Academician Arif Pashayev, who has made great contributions to the development of science and education in Azerbaijan, was awarded with the highest awards of our country - the orders of "Independence", "Honor" and "Glory".

Arif Pashayev is a member of the Expert Council of the Higher Attestation Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan, a member of the Territorial Council of the Tbilisi Technical University, the chairman of the Scientific Council for device manufacturing at ANAS, the co-chairman of the joint specialized council under the Azerbaijan National Aerospace Agency and the National Aviation Academy, the coordination council for the training of aviation specialists under the Interstate Aviation Committee is a member.

For the first time, Arif Pashayev worked out the scientific basis of methods of non-contact measurement of electrophysical parameters of semiconductor materials and created scientific devices that implement these methods. Under his guidance, more than 10 graduate students and doctoral students defended their candidate theses. At the same time, he acted as an advisor for two doctoral theses and an official opponent for many doctoral theses defended in Russia, Ukraine, Latvia, Estonia and Azerbaijan. From 1971 to 1996, he headed the "Physical methods of non-destructive measurement and control" laboratory of the Institute of Physics of ANAS.

Academician created the physical basis of non-damage research of materials in high and ultra-high frequency ranges, development of scientific bases of non-damage control semiconductor physics and measurement directions, creation of new directions and their application. Academician Arif Pashayev is the author of about 300 scientific works, more than 15 books and monographs. The scientist received authorship certificates and industrial samples for more than 30 inventions, was awarded with medals and diplomas.

Academician Arif Pashayev has special services in the field of training qualified personnel for the aviation field in Azerbaijan. The outstanding scientist is the founder and rector of the National Aviation Academy of the State Concern "Azerbaijan Airlines" from 1996 until now.
