On December 12, an event was held in the National Library in connection with the Memorial Day of National leader Heydar Aliyev.

Director of the National Library, professor Karim Tahirov, who opened the event, welcomed the participants. Then the dear memory of National leader Heydar Aliyev was commemorated with a minute's silence.

The director said that December 12 is the day of commemoration of the founder and architect of independent Azerbaijan, the great statesman, the savior of our nation, Great Leader Heydar Aliyev. In his speech, he emphasized that the national leader has finished dividing Azerbaijan, that his works and ideas are still alive today, that the dear memory of the Great Leader will always be remembered and will never be forgotten as long as the people of Azerbaijan and the Independent State of Azerbaijan stand and live.

He also said that under the leadership of Mr. President Ilham Aliyev, who is a worthy follower of the political line defined by national leader Heydar Aliyev, and with the participation of the victorious Azerbaijani army, our lands that were under occupation for nearly 30 years were freed from the enemy and as a result of his successful domestic and foreign policy, Azerbaijan is today and has become a leading country in the region.

Later, the participants of the event inspected the organized exhibition. In the exhibition, books and documents reflecting different periods of the life of the genius preserved in the library fund were displayed.
