November 9 is celebrated in Azerbaijan as the National Flag Day.
According to the decree signed by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev on November 18, 2009, November 9 is celebrated as the National Flag Day in Azerbaijan. The national flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan was adopted at a meeting of the government of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic on November 9, 1918 and had state status until April 1920. That flag was approved as the state flag of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic at the session held on November 17, 1990 under the initiative and leadership of Heydar Aliyev, the Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, the national leader of our people. On February 5, 1991, the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Azerbaijan adopted the Law "On the State Flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan" and declared it the State Flag.
On October 18, 1991, with the Constitutional Act "On the State Independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan", the Republic of Azerbaijan restored its state symbols, including the State flag, as the successor of the Azerbaijan People's Republic.
The National flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan is one of the main factors of national solidarity of Azerbaijani citizens and close unity around a single ideology. The flag, which is one of the most sacred symbols, is the proof of the nation's existence, the main indicator of its ability to claim an independent state. The flag, a symbol of self-affirmation, is a place of pride and confidence for every citizen of Azerbaijan.
On the occasion of the State Flag Day of the Republic of Azerbaijan, a virtual exhibition of the same name was prepared by the employees of the National Library of Azerbaijan named after M.F. Akhundzade. In the virtual exhibition, the official document, the opinions of prominent people of Azerbaijan about the national flag, photos, the history of our national flag, books about the national symbols of the Republic of Azerbaijan and materials published in periodicals and press pages are displayed.
