February 21 is celebrated as International Mother Language Day. The significant day was announced by UNESCO in 1999 at the initiative of Bangladesh.
International Mother Language Day, which is held every year to protect endangered languages, reminds everyone that they have the right to feel the presence of their native language, to be proud of it, to protect it, and to develop it.
The comprehensive development of the mother tongue in Azerbaijan, its transformation into a working language, and finding its way into the system of international relations is the result of the policy of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev aimed at protecting the language.
On the occasion of this day, a virtual exhibition called "February 21 - International Mother Language Day" was prepared by the employees of the National Library of Azerbaijan. In the virtual exhibition, the views of prominent personalities of Azerbaijan about the mother tongue, photos, books related to the topic and articles published in periodicals are displayed.
