The outstanding composer, People's Artist, Professor Siyavush Karimi was born on November 9, 1954 in Baku. In 1961-69, he studied at secondary school No. 159 in Baku. In 1969-72, he graduated from the tar class of the Bulbul Secondary Specialized Music School. He was a student of the master musician Ahsan Dadashov. In 1972-77, he continued his education at the Azerbaijan State Conservatory named after U. Hajibeyli. Since 1979, he has been one of the soloists in the orchestra of the Rashid Behbudov State Song Theater, the music director of the "Azkonsert", "Ashighlar" group, the "Jangi" variety-folklore ensemble, the variety-symphonic orchestra of Azerbaijan Television and Radio, and the artistic director of the Rafig Babayev music studio of the "Azerbaijanfilm" film studio named after J. Jabbarli. During these years, he became close friends with People's Artist Rafig Babayev, with whom he worked together, and was influenced by his music.
Professor Siyavush Karimi, who has long made special contributions to the training of national musicians in Azerbaijan, is the rector of the Azerbaijan National Conservatory, professor of the "Popular Music and Jazz Performance" department.
Siyavush Karimi is the author of numerous musical works. It is his lyrical songs that introduced him to a wide audience, and he is also famous as a composer and a beautiful and mysterious arranger of folk songs.
Professor Siyavush Karimi has contributed to the development of modern Azerbaijani theater art with the music he wrote for many theater performances.Among them are “Malikmammad”, “Butterflies”, “Farhad and Shirin”, “Timon of Athens”, “The Story of Molla Ibrahimkhalil the Alchemist”, “Adventures-Mirza Fatali Akhundzade”, “Almaz”, “Yashar”, “Unpunished Sin”, “Crazy Meeting”, “Disaster”, “Shah Qajar”, “Earthquake”, “Class Children”, “Ghost in the Post Office”, “Mesenat” and etc. His activity in this field began in the early 2000s. In 2003, he was awarded the “Golden Dervish” award for the music written for the play “Hamlet” by the great English playwright W. Shakespeare, which was staged on the stage of the Academic National Drama Theater, and in 2013, he was awarded the “Zirve” award for the play “The Alchemist”.
Cinema also occupies an important place in Siyavush Karimi's creative work as a composer. The film music written by the composer covers films of various genres and content: documentary films, feature films, tragic, lyrical, psychological films, historical, patriotic, love, humorous films, etc. Among them are “Garavelli” (1989), “Garavelli-2” (1992), “Chalyshan adam” (1996), “Son vujy” (1996), “Sarı gelın” (1998), “Heydar Aliyev” (1999-2013, 9 series), “Girov” (2005), “Alvida, südüz şaheri” (2006), “Kabusun gezüyle” (2010), “Ilahi mekhluq” (2011), “Dervishin çeşehi” (2013), etc. Siyavush Karimi is known as the author of many international projects in our contemporary music history. In 1997, the Azerbaijan-Norway and in 2002, the Azerbaijan-South America music projects were successfully implemented under his leadership.
He is the co-author of the "Saz Mektebi" textbook and the compiler of the two-volume "Azerbaijani Folk Songs" collection.
In 2014, Siyavush Karimi was awarded the "Shohrat" Order for his fruitful activities in the field of music education, and on December 31, 2020, he was awarded the "Sharaf" Order for his services to the development of national music education in Azerbaijan. On November 9, 2024, he was awarded a personal scholarship of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan for his services to the development of Azerbaijani musical culture.
On the occasion of the anniversary of the outstanding composer, People's Artist, Professor Siyavush Karimi, a traditional book exhibition entitled "People's Artist, Professor Siyavush Karimi" was presented to users at the National Library.
The exhibition features literature in Azerbaijani and foreign languages about the life, rich, valuable scientific and pedagogical activities of People's Artist, Professor Siyavush Karimi, books compiled and edited, for which he was the author of the foreword, and collections of sheet music.
The exhibition will last for a week.
