Independence, control of one's destiny, creation and development of one's own state is the greatest achievement of every nation. Despite the difficulties faced at different stages of history, no force could extinguish the aspirations of the Azerbaijani people for independence and statehood, and as soon as conditions and opportunities arose, our people turned the ideals of independence into reality.The people of Azerbaijan are happy that today they have their own independent state, and our state independence is the national wealth of our people.

The role of personalities in history is undeniable. Individuals who changed the fate and history of the people they belong to by their actions, and turned their national identity into a source of pride and honor, have earned the right to eternal life in the national memory of their people. Today, the independent identity and the fate of the nations on the world stage with their own state were determined by such historical personalities. The Great Leader Heydar Aliyev was undoubtedly the personality and great leader who signed such great deeds for the people of Azerbaijan. It is no coincidence that today Heydar Aliyev's name sounds like a symbol of independent and sovereign Azerbaijan. Because the main goal of Heydar Aliyev's political activity, which does not fit into the concept of time and space, was to build a free and independent state of Azerbaijan, and thanks to his wise policy, irrevocable conviction and historical foresight, he succeeded in realizing the ideals of freedom and independence of our people. The adoption of the "Constitutional Act on State Independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan" at the session of the Supreme Soviet on October 18, 1991 marked the beginning of a new era in the history of our republic. However, unlike other republics, Azerbaijan's path to independence was not smooth. Our people made a lot of sacrifices and suffered a lot on this road. Therefore, this freedom is an irreplaceable value for us as a source of the highest national pride.

No matter how much the declaration of state independence of Azerbaijan was welcomed by our society with great enthusiasm and joy, the negative political processes that took place in the subsequent period made the ideas of freedom of our people questionable. The authorities in power in 1991-1993 did not do anything to strengthen the independence of Azerbaijan, on the contrary, they isolated the country by keeping it away from the processes going on in the world. As a logical result of the power struggles, the failures at the front and the strengthening of separatist tendencies inside made the destruction of our statehood and independence inevitable.

In such a difficult period, the return of Heydar Aliyev, who has extensive political experience, to the leadership of the country at the insistence of the people became the main factor that served to preserve and strengthen the state independence of Azerbaijan. With the arrival of the genius son of our people to political power, the danger of repeating the fate of our republic in 1920 has disappeared.

The processes that took place from 1991 to June 1993 showed that preserving independence was more difficult than restoring it. If the People's Republic lived for only 23 months at the beginning of the century, Azerbaijan, which regained its state independence at the end of the century, faced the threat of losing not only its independence, its statehood as a whole, but also the danger of being disintegrated and erased from the political scene as a state. As a result of Heydar Aliyev's determination and visionary policy, our country managed to protect its independence and sovereignty in a difficult situation. The name of the Great Leader was engraved in history as the architect and founder of the independent state of Azerbaijan, and became the National Leader of our people.

As a result of the successful activity of President Ilham Aliyev, the worthy political follower of the Great Leader, the political and economic pillars of our independence have been further strengthened. Today, Azerbaijan has become one of the powerful states of the world.  On this background, it is more obvious that our independence is strong. Over the 19 years of his leadership of the country, Ilham Aliyev created a state that, as he himself said, has never been so powerful, reliable and stable in the history of Azerbaijan as it is now. Not only we, international rating organizations also note this in their published reports. The fact that Azerbaijan is the leader of the region, implements a completely independent policy, does not have a military contingent of any state in its territory, reconciles the interests of the great powers with its own interests, becomes a center of international events, and has become a member of the space club in recent years are separate magnificent aspects of this power. A few years ago, Azerbaijan's chairmanship of the UN Security Council was also a result of independence and independent policy.

Azerbaijan, which pursues an independent policy and does not depend on anyone, defines its own goals and takes decisive steps to realize them. Azerbaijan has determined to reach the ranks of developed countries as its strategic task. Thanks to the determination of President Ilham Aliyev, the successful implementation of Azerbaijan's oil strategy, the launch of new energy projects, as well as the launch of new projects in other areas of the economy are the results of independent politics and independent statehood. Our people are the full owners of their economic resources and natural resources and use them effectively for their well-being.

The new realities that emerged in the South Caucasus after the Second Karabakh War created a real basis for the further diversification of Azerbaijan's international political, economic and commercial relations. Liberation of our lands from occupation during the Patriotic War was the most remarkable event of our modern history of independence.This victory, won thanks to the authorship of Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, the courage of our army and the heroism of our soldiers, further glorified our history of independence and gave pride to our people. This victory once again confirmed that under the leadership of Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijan is living the most powerful period in its history. As President Ilham Aliyev noted, we are rightfully proud of being citizens of Azerbaijan: "We live in a free country, we live in a stable country, we live in a self-reliant country. We are rightly proud that we are citizens of Azerbaijan."

The successful policy of Ilham Aliyev, who took decisive steps towards the further strengthening of our country, increasing its international reputation, and the implementation of progressive reforms that meet the new challenges of the world, is gaining support and sympathy in the international world. Because at the same time, the President of Azerbaijan is taking practical steps to strengthen international solidarity in the struggle at the global level. It is appreciated by international organizations. Today, not every state on the world map is capable of conducting an independent foreign policy like Azerbaijan. Mr. Ilham Aliyev's foreign policy has turned Azerbaijan into a reliable and strategic partner in the world. It is the result of this policy that today Azerbaijan is recognized as having a say in international organizations.

If we pay attention,we will see that there are indeed many successes in Azerbaijan's independent foreign policy. At the same time, it is enough to show that our country presides over the Non-Aligned Movement and the Cooperation Council of Turkic-Speaking Countries, which have 120 permanent members. Of course, all these successes are the merit of Mr. Ilham Aliyev's foreign policy activities.

The invitation of the President of Azerbaijan to the most prestigious events, meetings with leaders of leading states, influential social and political figures and other persons in the world are once again an indicator of the high reputation of both Mr. Ilham Aliyev and our country.

By making an important contribution to the development of international cooperation, Ilham Aliyev increased the prestige of Azerbaijan in the world community and its weight in interstate relations. The tactical and strategic features of the foreign policy carried out by the President have brought great success to Azerbaijan. All this shows that Azerbaijan is an independent country with the most perfect foreign policy course in the region. Ilham Aliyev's foreign policy initiatives take regional and global realities into account with jeweler's precision. The truth of this opinion was also confirmed by the results of the Second Karabakh War.

Every decision and every step taken by President Ilham Aliyev aims to ensure the realization of Azerbaijan's national interests, further increase of our country's international reputation, consistent implementation of the concept of a strong state and modern society, and further improvement of the welfare of the population. Our achieved successes show that Ilham Aliyev is properly and successfully bringing our state and people to these goals.
