On May 6, an event dedicated to the 99th anniversary of the birth of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev,the traditional exhibition called "The personality of Azerbaijan, who is as eternal as itself - Heydar Aliyev" and the presentation ceremony of the Electronic database called "National leader of the Azerbaijani people - Heydar Aliyev" was held at the National Library jointly organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the National Library.

Director of the National Library Professor Karim Tahirov opened the event and said that the people of Azerbaijan are celebrating a historical day in these days.  10th of May  is the birthday of Heydar Aliyev, the National Leader of the Azerbaijani people. Today, we gathered at the National Library for an event dedicated to the birthday of Heydar Aliyev, the personality as eternal as Azerbaijan itself, the architect of our independent Azerbaijan, the eldest son of our nation, Great Leader Heydar Aliyev. In these days the people of Azerbaijan, Azerbaijanis all over the world, lovers of Azerbaijan as a whole are holding events of various formats dedicated to the memory of National Leader Heydar Aliyev. The director emphasized that national leader, world-class political figure Heydar Aliyev is a rare, unique personality who opened a new bright page in the history of our centuries-old statehood. Talking about the creation works started by the national leader Heydar Aliyev in the 70s of the last century, the director noted that our prosperous life today is the result of his hard work. Also, during his speech, he talked about Great Leader Heydar Aliyev's concern for culture, books and libraries, and said that in 1995-1997, the Great Leader visited the National Library 4 times and on his first visit, he donated about 300 books from his personal library to this library.

He said that one of the most important services of the Great Leader to Azerbaijan was recommending a student whom he believed as much as himself to lead his people. The liberation of our Karabakh from the enemy's foothold which has been an incurable wound for nearly 30 years, with the strong will of Mr. President Ilham Aliyev and the participation of the Victorious Azerbaijan Army, proved once again that the Great Leader was not wrong in his choice. Mr. President Ilham Aliyev continued the work started by our National Leader with great success and brought him greatness. At the end of his speech, the director noted that the dear memory of Heydar Aliyev, the eldest son of the Turkic world, will live forever in the memory of the appreciative people of Azerbaijan.

The head of the "History of the Republic of Azerbaijan" department of the Institute of History named after A.A.Bakikhanov of ANAS, PhD in history, professor Mais Amrahov made a speech and said that today we have gathered for an event which is dedicated to the birthday of Heydar Aliyev, the most prominent politician and statesman not only of the people of Azerbaijan, but also of the world. He emphasized that no matter how many years or centuries pass, many books will be written about this great personality. However, the greatest work about him is the Independent Republic of Azerbaijan. M. Amrahov noted that Great Leader Heydar Aliyev is a leader who stands out among world leaders with his knowledge, thinking ability, determination, strong will, and restraint. Speaking about the political activity of the Great Leader in front of the Azerbaijan state, he said that his name is associated with the adoption of numerous decisions and principles on the painful wound of our country, Karabakh, and the formation of the National Strategy of Azerbaijan.

 Later, M. Amrahov talked about the services of the National Leader to the culture and history of Azerbaijan and emphasized that the Azerbaijani language was designated as the state language, the statue of Nariman Narimanov was erected in Baku, the statue of Huseyn Javid was brought to Azerbaijan, as well as the statue of Yusif Mammadaliyev was erected, his name was immortalized, etc. which is a direct result of his progressive services.

At the end of his speech, he said that Mr. President Ilham Aliyev is successfully continuing the Great Leader's policy today. Our lands under occupation were now liberated under the leadership of Mr. President Ilham Aliyev which was the greatest wish of the Great Leader. Today, our independent Azerbaijan is known as a free country among the countries of the world.

Adiba Ismayilova, Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs and Library-Information Service of the National Library of Azerbaijan, Head of the NAP Sabail district "Khagani 57" regional party organization, spoke about the invaluable services of National leader Heydar Aliyev in the formation of Azerbaijan statehood, independent Azerbaijan, and the high value he gave to books and libraries. She talked about the important measures implemented for the prosperity of our people.

During the event, the electronic database called "National leader of the Azerbaijani people - Heydar Aliyev" (http://anl.az/el/emb/H.Aliyev/index.html) and a short film about the National Leader Heydar Aliyev were presented to the participants.

At the end, the participants got acquainted with the traditional exhibition called "The personality of Azerbaijan as eternal as itself - Heydar Aliyev". In the exhibition, books, articles, etc., preserved in the National Library's fund, reflecting the life and activities of the National Leader were displayed.
