By the decision of the General Assembly of the United Nations, since 1992, every year May 5 is celebrated all over the world as "International Day for the Protection of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities". The purpose of celebrating this day is to bring the protection of the rights of disabled and disabled people to the attention of the international community, to strengthen the integration of people from this category into society.

There are state programs related to social protection of the disabled in our country. All provisions of the law on disability prevention, rehabilitation and social protection are reflected in those programs.

On the occasion of this day, the staff of the National Library of Azerbaijan prepared a virtual exhibition called "May 5 - International Day for the Protection of the Rights of the Disabled". In the virtual exhibition, photos, books related to the topic and materials published in periodicals are displayed.
