On May 31, a meeting with Jamal Kamal – the National poet of Uzbekistan was held in the National Library.
Opening the event, director of the National Library professor Karim Tahirov welcomed the participants. At first, he spoke about literary and cultural relations between Azerbaijan and Uzbek peoples, and noted that poems of the prominent poet Jamal Kamal are read with great love by the Azerbaijani readers.
In her speech Member of Parliament Ganira Pashayeva mentioned that the poet had translated Azerbaijani literature into Uzbek and currently is working on translating Nizami Ganjavi’s “Khamsa” into Uzbek. She also noted that “Treasury of Mysteries” and “Leyla and Majnun” had already been published in Uzbek language, and translating played an important role in the poet’s life.
Head of Department of ANAS Literature Institute named after Nizmai Ganjavi, doctor in philology Almaz Ulvi made a speech at the event.
In his speech, the poet expressed his admiration to the Azerbaijani people, Azerbaijani literature, answered the participants’ questions, and thanked to everyone who came to the meeting.
At the end of the meeting, nearly 50 samples of modern Uzbek literature were donated to the Azerbaijan National Library.
In the end, participants of the event acquainted with an exhibition consisting of books about Uzbek literature in Azerbaijani, or Azerbaijani literature in Uzbek language.
