The National Library of Azerbaijan participated in the seminar "Khurshidbanu Natavan: the role of Azerbaijani women in the promotion of literature and art" held at the Academic Library of the University of Latvia

On September 13, a seminar called "Khurshidbanu Natavan: the role of Azerbaijani women in the promotion of literature and art" was held at the Academic Library of the University of Latvia in Riga.

The director of the Academic Library of the University of Latvia, doctor of philology Venta Kocere opened the seminar with an introductory speech. Later, the ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Latvia, Mr. Elnur Sultanov, gave a detailed speech about Khurshidbanu Nateva's creativity, her works, and her position in Azerbaijani literature.

At the seminar, Adiba Ismayilova, PhD in History, Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs and Library-Information Service, representing the National Library of Azerbaijan, gave a speech in English on the topic "Khurshidbanu Natavan".During her speech, she said that Khurshidbanu Natavan was one of the prominent figures of the 19th century Azerbaijani literature, and she played an important role in the formation of the literary and artistic environment and the activity of literary gatherings in the city of Shusha, one of the oldest cultural centers of Azerbaijan in the 19th century.

A. Ismayilova gave information about Khurshidbanu Natavan and emphasized that her poems are in Azerbaijani or Persian languages and she was known mostly for her lyrical ghazals. She noted that Khurshidbanu Natavan is the daughter of the last Karabakh Khan Mehdigulu Khan Javanshir, the granddaughter of Ibrahimkhalil Khan, she was the founder and custodian of the famous "Majlisi-uns" and "Majlisi-faramushan" in Shusha and all over Karabakh.

A. Ismayilova emphasized that this year marks the 190th anniversary of Khurshidbanu Natavan, and on this occasion, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan signed a decree "On celebrating the 190th anniversary of Khurshidbanu Natavan". In connection with the celebration of the 190th anniversary of Khurshidbanu Natavan, many projects were implemented in the National Library of Azerbaijan. "Khurshidbanu Natavan" bibliography was prepared and published.

These days, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the National Library held a jubilee event of the outstanding poetess in the hometown of Khurshidbanu Natavan in the city of Shusha, which was freed from the 30-year Armenian occupation.Then A. Ismayilova showed the electronic database "Khurshidbanu Natavan" prepared in English by the employees of the National Library to the participants.

She noted that the electronic database consists of sections  such as "Khurshidbanu Natavan", "President Ilham Aliyev's attention to perpetuating the memory of Khan's daughter"; "The main dates of her life and creativity"; " Thoughts of prominent personalities about Khurshidbanu Natavan"; "Works"; "Works about Khurshidbanu Natavan", "Perpetuating the memory of Khurshidbanu Natavan", "Filmography", "Photo gallery", "Video gallery"and each section presented to the participants. During her speech, A. Ismayilova showed the participants some of the books written by Khurshidbanu Natavan and written about her, which are reflected in the electronic database.

At the end of her speech, she emphasized that the National Library of Azerbaijan continues to implement new projects related to Khurshidbanu Natavan.

In the continuation of the seminar, Nazli Hajizadeh, a descendant of Khurshidbanu Natavan, head of the Center for Korean Studies, Kaspars Klavins, professor of the Faculty of Human Rights of the University of Latvia, and others gave speeches about Khurshidbanu Natavan's creativity and the charity work she did.

Khurshidbanu Natavan", "Poetic portrait of the Sun of Shusha: (Poems and short poems dedicated to Khurshidbanu Natavan)",   "Natavan’s word: (Poems dedicated to Khurshidbanu Natavan)" and "Khurshidbanu Natavan. Bibliography" books donated to the fund of the Academic Library of the University of Latvia.
