This year marks the 120th anniversary of academician Firuz Ali oglu Malikov, one of the prominent figures who rendered exceptional services in the formation and development of the scientific thought of Azerbaijan in the 20th century and in the social and political life of our nation.
Academician Firuz Malikov entered our scientific history as the founder of Azerbaijan animal husbandry science and the founder of the Azerbaijani school of animal husbandry science. Each of his works is the cornerstone, support, and pillar of that science and scientific school.
Academician Firuz Malikov was not only a great scientist but also a well-known social and political figure. He was repeatedly elected a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the Azerbaijan SSR. During his career, he devoted his life to the progress and prosperity of his people and nation, which he loved more than his life, and to the development of our science.
In 1941-1945, he conducted eleven scientific types of researches related to solving the most pressing problems of animal husbandry and achieved great success in this field. Thus, the creation of the scientific basis of advanced animal husbandry work, and the further development of animal husbandry practice on this basis led to raising the productivity of the field to the highest level during the war, when it was urgently needed. His “Black sheep farming in Azerbaijan”, “Azerbaijan's mountain merino”, “Sheep farming”, “and Azerbaijan’s brown cattle” etc. works are the pearls of Azerbaijan’s animal husbandry science.
The breeding of fine-wool sheep occupies a very great place in the research directions of the Academician Firuz Malikov.
A virtual exhibition called "Firuz Malikov" was prepared by the employees of the National Library of Azerbaijan for the 120th anniversary of the outstanding academician. The virtual exhibition displays photos, books, and articles written about eminent academician.
