This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Fikret Amirov, the outstanding composer, musician, People's Artist of Azerbaijan.

Fikret Amirov is one of the leading figures of 20th century Azerbaijani music. F. Amirov's symphonic mughams and "Nizami" symphony were performed under the direction of the world's most famous conductors G. Rozhdestvensky (Russia), K. Abendrot (Germany), S. Munch (France) and L. Stokolovsky (USA).

No matter how wide the range of genres of F. Amirov's music is, he plays a leading role in the creation of symphonic and musical stage genres. The new, symphonic mugham genre invented by the composer was represented by such valuable works as "Shur", "Kurd Ovsharı" and "Gulustan Bayati-Shiraz".  F. Amirov's "Nizami" symphony, "Azerbaijani capricciosu", "Azerbaijani suite", "Azerbaijani engravings" glorifying the native land are valuable pages of the composer's heritage.

One of the most successful works of Fikret Amirov, who began his career in the field of stage music with the musical comedies "Urekachanlar" and "Gozun Aydin" is the "Nizami" symphony written for string orchestra. This symphony was performed under the leadership of the world's most famous conductors.

Fikret Amirov, who composed the four-movement symphonic suite "Azerbaijan", followed it by writing the opera "Seville", which entered the history of national music as the first national lyrical opera on a modern theme.

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Fikret Amirov, the "Fikret Amirov" electronic database was prepared by the employees of the National Library of Azerbaijan named after M.F. Akhundzade.
