One of the significant historical days, March 8 - International Women's Day is a day of international solidarity of women in the struggle for economic, social and political equality.
In connection with this significant historical day, the employees of the National Library have prepared a virtual exhibition called "March 8 - International Women's Day", as well as a traditional book exhibition of the same name.
The virtual exhibition displays articles, photos, books published in the periodical press about the leadership and courage, purity and loyalty of Azerbaijani women, their exceptional services in the life of our society, in the formation of the system of national and spiritual values of our people, gender equality, etc. .

At the traditional book fair, literature in Azerbaijani and foreign languages is displayed on the topics of the women's issue in Azerbaijan: history and modernity in the late 19th century - early 20th century, Heydar Aliyev and women's politics in Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani women who wrote their names in history, the role of women in Azerbaijani statehood, women's problems, world women's solidarity, etc. The exhibition will last for a week.
It should be noted that the celebration of International Women's Day was decided at the 2nd International Conference of Socialist Women (Copenhagen) in 1910 at the suggestion of Clara Zetkin.
Women's Day was first held in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Denmark in 1911. In Azerbaijan, it was celebrated in 1917. Until 1914, International Women's Day was celebrated on different days. Holding International Women's Day on March 8 became a tradition after women in Austria, Hungary, Russia, the USA and other countries celebrated their solidarity day on this date.
Since then, women in all countries have also celebrated March 8 as a day of solidarity in the fight for peace.
