International Day of Persons with Disabilities is marked all over the world on December 3 every year. The UN General Assembly adopted a Declaration to mark December 3 as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on October 14, 1992. The purpose of this day is to protect the rights of people with disabilities in all spheres of public life and to draw the attention of general public to their problems.
Azerbaijan has acceded to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2006. The foundation of large-scale measures on social protection of persons with disabilities in our country was laid by Heydar Aliyev.
A virtual exhibition entitled “3 December – International Day of Persons with Disabilities” has been prepared by the employees of the National Library of Azerbaijan. The virtual exhibition features books, articles and photos on persons with disabilities.
