On October 8, Ambassador of the Argentine Republic to the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr.Sergio Perez Gunella and Deputy Head of mission Mrs.Corina Beatriz Lehmann visited the National Library. Director of the National Library prof.KarimTahirov welcomed the guests and expressed his satisfaction with the ambassador’s visit to the library.

During the meeting, the ambassador said that one of the main ways of cooperation between countries is mutual relations between libraries. The ambassador also noted that those relations will be further enhanced by signing a Memorandum of Understanding between Azerbaijan National Library and the Argentine National library. Director KarimTahirov said that the Memorandum of Understanding has already been agreed with the National Library of Argentina and is ready to sign. The director also noted that the main areas of the Memorandum of Understanding are book exchange, information exchange, exchange of specialists, as well as organizing mutual events.

Later, the ambassador asked the director a few questions about copyrights and e-resources that concern him. Prof.KarimTahirov said that by the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan IlhamAliyev, e-versions of all printed materials published in the country will be donated to the National Library and it will enrich the e-library.

Those resources will be placed on the website of the National Library in accordance with the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On copyrights and related rights” and will be available to users.

Mentioning the richness of the literature of both countries, the ambassador stressed the importance of mutual book exchange for the promotion of Azerbaijani literature in Argentina and Argentine literature in Azerbaijan as well.

At the end of the meeting, KarimTahirov presented “Azerbaijan National Library” (in three languages, Azerbaijani, Russian and English), “Old Baku” (in English) and a map of Azerbaijan to the guest. The Ambassador, in his turn, donated to the National Library the books of Argentine writers translated into Azerbaijani (Adolfo Bioy Casares “The invention of Morel”, Claudia Pineiro “A little stroke of luck”, Maria Elena Walsh “Dailan Kifki”) and the miniature book “The Argentina”.

In the end, the guests were taken photos.

Then, the ambassador and deputy head of mission toured the National Library, got closely acquainted with the working processes at the library. They also visited the “Rare books and the library museum” department, “Open Library” and other departments of the library, and wrote their heartfelt words on the memory book at the Open Library.
