On the 7th of October, within the framework of the VIII Baku International Book Fair opening of a permanent corner on Albania in the International Cooperation Hall of the National Library with the participation of the National Library of Albania and other countries represented at the 8th Baku International Book Fair, signing ceremony of the Memorandum on Mutual Cooperation between the National Library of Azerbaijan and the National Library of Albania, as well as a round table on "Libraries in the modern age : a vision of the future" was held.
The delegations from Albania, Latvia, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, who came with the invitation of the National Library of Azerbaijan, first got acquainted with the library.The guests visited the National Library's "Heydar Aliyev Corner", "Hall of International Cooperation", department of "Rare Books and Library Museum", "Open Library", Children's section, the reading room, and the library fund.
Then, the opening ceremony of the permanent corner on Albania was held in the International Cooperation Hall of the National Library. The director of the National Library, professor Karim Tahirov, opened the event and first greeted the guests and expressed his pleasure to see them in the library.
The director noted that very significant events are taking place in the cultural life of Azerbaijan these days. Thus, the book festival - VIII Baku International Book Fair is held in our country. The director noted that it has already become a custom in the National Library that a corner of literature covering the history, culture, economy, etc. of a country is created in the International Cooperation hall of the library within the framework of the annual book exhibitions. Today, we gathered for the opening ceremony of the permanent corner on Albania.
Then a Memorandum on Mutual Cooperation was signed between the National Library of Azerbaijan and the National Library of Albania. The memorandum was signed by director Karim Tahirov on behalf of Azerbaijan, and director Misha Piro on behalf of Albania.
K. Tahirov emphasized that the National Library of Azerbaijan has signed agreements on mutual cooperation with about 60 countries of the world. He said that the relations with the National Library of Albania will be strengthened after this contract. He noted that the number of books presented at the corner, which was opened today, I believe will increase even more after the memorandum on cooperation.
Director of the National Library of Albania, Misha Piro, spoke and expressed his satisfaction with his visit to Azerbaijan. He noted that the relations between the National Libraries of Albania and Azerbaijan will be further developed and strengthened after the signed memorandum. This memorandum will lead to mutual exchange of ideas and expansion of cooperation between two countries. Young readers, scholars, and intellectuals of the National Libraries of the two countries will benefit more from this cooperation agreement and will take advantage of the opportunity.
In the continuation of the event, the library representatives of the participating countries presented the books on the literature and culture of their countries to the management of the National Library of Azerbaijan and expressed their gratitude for the cultural programs and events held within the framework of the VIII Baku International Book Fair.
Later, a round table was held on the topic "Libraries in the modern age: a vision of the future". Prof. Karim Tahirov said that today modern libraries have to meet the needs of their readers by using new work forms and methods, they build their work on new requirements and invited the participants to an active discussion.
President of the State Library of Russia Viktor Vasilyevich Fyodorov made a speech and greeted the employees of the National Library of Azerbaijan and all participants and guests. Thanking the director of the National Library for the invitation to the international event, he emphasized that everything was organized at a high level.
The speaker said that the libraries have already developed their activities according to the requirements of the time, printed publications are being archived and converted into electronic form, there is no boundary between an Internet resource and a printed product created on the web, and noted that the science of librarianship lags far behind the library experience, and mentioned the necessity of training a new generation of educated researchers in this field, and the importance of developing education.
Maria Vladimirovna Neryueva, Deputy Director of International Relations of the Russian State Library, General Director of the Library Assembly of Eurasia(LAE), emphasized that there are always mutual friendly relations and close cooperation between the libraries of the two neighboring countries, and spoke about the many similarities between the libraries.
The Director of the Central Scientific Library of ANAS, Professor Mammad Aliyev, gave information about the destroyed libraries in Karabakh and offered to organize a joint online meeting with the Russian State Library aimed at solving existing problems in the field of library work and an international meeting in Shusha.
At the meeting of IFLA held in Ankara this year, Prof. Karim Tahirov invited experts to see the destroyed libraries and other cultural centers in Karabakh, saying that a special request was addressed to IFLA by the library, and called on foreign guests to help form the funds of these libraries that will be restored.
Nadir Ismayilov, head of the department of bibliography of BSU, PhD in pedagogy, docent, Gulnara Almankulova, head of the department of Dissertation and Abstracts of the National Library of Kyrgyzstan, Leyla Ibrahimova, head of department the Republican Children's Library named after F. Kocharli, and others talked about the main problems facing libraries, especially today, and discussed the issue of copyright.
"Nikolai Rumyantsev" medal by the management of the State Library of Russia was presented to the director of the National Library of Azerbaijan prof. Karim Tahirova.
In the end, the director presented books as a gift from the reserve exchange fund of the National Library to the participating countries.
