On June 18, Azerbaijan celebrates the National Human Rights Day. Ensuring human rights and freedoms in the modern world has become an integral part of democratic development, the highest manifestation of the moral, legal and political ideals of mankind, is considered the main criterion for the maturity of civil society.

Human rights are based on shared values such as dignity, justice, equality, respect and independence. These values are defined and protected by law. These criteria, considered as a subject of common concern and responsibility in all civilized states, have found a strong place in the social and political life of the independent Republic of Azerbaijan.

After the restoration of state independence, our country accepted the supremacy of universal human values that have successfully passed the test of history as a full-fledged international society and an independent subject of international law, and has chosen democratic, legal and secular state building, as well as freedom, human rights, justice and peace, which are the ideals of human civilization as a way of its development.

The first "State Program on the Protection of Human Rights" was approved in the Republic of Azerbaijan on June 18, 1998 by our national leader Heydar Aliyev by the Decree of the Head of State Mr. Ilham Aliyev dated June 18, 2007and taking into account that the provision of human rights is defined as one of the main directions of state policy, June 18 was established as Human Rights Day in the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The human rights factor was the basis of the activities of the national leader of our people, Heydar Aliyev. Our Great Leader has always specially noted the need to protect fundamental human rights and freedoms and the importance of creating conditions for them, as a precondition for the process of civilized, secular state-building.

On the occasion of June 18 - National Human Rights Day, a virtual exhibition of the same name was prepared by the employees of the National Library of Azerbaijan named after M.F. Akhundzade. Official documents, photos, books and articles related to the topic are displayed in the virtual exhibition.
