November 12 - is celebrated as the Constitution Day in Azerbaijan.
On February 6, 1996, by order of President Heydar Aliyev, November 12 was declared the Constitution Day of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
On November 12, 1995, the first Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan was adopted at a national referendum.
Adoption of the Constitution is one of the most important events in the history of our independence, as well as one of the great services of the national leader Heydar Aliyev to the statehood of Azerbaijan. This Constitution is a perfect and progressive document that regulates the process of independent state building, ensures democratic development, includes fundamental changes in the political, social, cultural, and economic spheres of society, and plays the role of a legal basis for improving legislation.
Our Constitution, based on the principles of division of powers and the priority of human rights and freedoms, creates a solid foundation for democratic, legal, secular state-building, establishes the spirit of humanism, national solidarity and tolerance in society, and stimulates harmonious relations between different social groups of citizens.The Constitution puts forward the human factor, the rights of citizens, ensuring their well-being and security. Our Constitution ensures the irrevocable implementation of human and civil rights, as well as the strengthening of state independence and sovereignty.
On the occasion of this historic day, a virtual exhibition called "November 12 - Constitution Day of the Republic of Azerbaijan" was prepared by the employees of the National Library of Azerbaijan named after M.F. Akhundzade. In the virtual exhibition, the official document, the opinions of the prominent personalities of Azerbaijan about our constitution, photos, books on the subject and articles published in the periodical press are displayed.
