1st of June is the International Children's Day. As in most countries of the world, this day is also celebrated in Azerbaijan. On June 1, 1950, the UN General Assembly decided to celebrate International Children's Day.
At the "International Women's Conference" organized on the same day, proposals were made regarding the provision of children's rights, and at the same event, it was decided to dedicate 1st of June to the international protection of children.
In Azerbaijan, many works have been done in the direction of protecting and caring for children. Issues related to the social and legal protection of children in our country are regulated by the Constitution, legislative and normative-legal acts. A legislative framework has been formed in Azerbaijan regarding the protection of children's rights, the law "On Children's Rights" and some other legal acts have been adopted.
The great historical figure Heydar Aliyev said: "Children are our future, the tomorrow of our country, nation, and state will depend on how we educate them."
President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed a decree dated December 22, 2008 with the aim of strengthening state care for children in Azerbaijan, increasing the attention of civil society organizations to children's problems and determining the country's demographic prospects related to children. According to the order, 2009 was declared "Children's Year".
On the occasion of "International Day of Children's Protection", a virtual exhibition called "June 1 - International Day of Children's Protection" was prepared by the staff of the National Library of Azerbaijan named after M.F. Akhundzade. The virtual exhibition displays photos, books and articles related to the topic.
