Within the framework of the event, there will be held an international scientific conference on the theme of “New challenges, new ideas, new requirements for libraries: book, reading, innovations”, presentation of “Molla Panah Vagif in the world languages” book published by TURLSOY and Azerbaijan National Library, and signing ceremony of Memorandums between the Azerbaijan National Library and the National Library of Russia and between the Azerbaijan National Library and the National Library and Archive of Egypt.

The colleagues from the National Libraries of Turkey, Great Britain, Egypt, Russia, Malaysia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Moldova, Belarus, Uzbekistan, and from the University of California, Los Angeles are represented at the event.

First, the guests of Azerbaijan National Library visited the graves of the nationwide leader, the founder and architect of the modern Azerbaijan, Heydar Aliyev and Zarifa Aliyeva in the Alley of Honor, put wreaths in front of their monuments and commemorated martyrs who died for the homeland, in the Martyrs’ Alley.

Then the guests met with prof. Karim Tahirov, director of the Azerbaijan National Library.

Solemn opening ceremony of the V Baku International Book Fair was held in Baku Sports Palace. The Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Abulfas Garayev and other employees of the ministry, administration of the National Library, directors of the National Libraries of the foreign countries, as well as the heads of the leading libraries of Azerbaijan, directors of the CLS of the regions, generally, the whole library community had participated in the opening of the V Baku International Book Fair. The participants of the event attended the presentation of the “Automatic Book Kiosk” project of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The national libraries of more than 10 countries demonstrated their valuable books in the exhibition and it caused great interest of the participants.

At the exhibition, Azerbaijan National Library was represented by more than 600 books, including the samples of classical Azerbaijan literature and the world literature that published in Latin alphabet by the order of the President of the Azerbaijan Republic Ilham Aliyev, the publications of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, as well as the publications of the National Library.

Before acquaintance with the National Library, the Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Abulfas Garayev met with the guests came from the libraries of foreign countries that participating in the events. He expressed his gratitude to everyone who accepted the challenge of the National Library and participated both in conference and exhibition. He spoke about the expansion of relations between the countries, the importance of promoting cultural wealth, and he also noted that the role of the national libraries in this regard is invaluable. He highly appreciated the works done by the Azerbaijan National Library in this field, and the activities of the library.

In their speech, the employees of the UCLA in USA David Hirsch, Director of the National Library of Turkey Zulfi Toman, Director of the National Library of Russia Alexander Visly and Chairman of the National Library and Archive of Egypt, Ahmad Al-Shoky highly appreciated the care of the Minister for book, library and reading, and expressed their gratitude to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and to the National Library for the organization of the event.

Then the guests got acquainted with Azerbaijan National Library, Presidential Library of the Administrative Department of the President of Azerbaijan Republic, and with the Central Scientific Library of ANAS.
