A book exhibition titled “Professor Famil Mehdi – 90” opened at the National Library

The renowned Azerbaijani poet, critic, publicist, Doctor of Philology, and professor Famil Mehdiyev (Famil Mehdi) was born on December 25, 1934, in the village of Sarihajili, Agdam District.

He completed his education at the seven-year school in Ahmadvar village, then studied at the Agdam Pedagogical School. He continued his studies at the Journalism Department of the Faculty of Philology at the Azerbaijan State University (ASU). He began his professional career as a literary worker at the "Baku" evening newspaper. He later worked as an aspirant (1961–1964), teacher, and senior teacher at ASU's Faculty of Philology. He served as the head of the Department of Theory and Practice of Journalism at the Faculty of Journalism starting in 1973. His doctoral dissertation was on the topic "The Artistic Problems of Azerbaijani Literary Publicism."

From the first days of the Karabakh War, he founded the "Nijat" society and established the "General Muhammad Asadov" award to motivate volunteers defending the homeland.

He began his literary career in 1951 with his first poem "Lenin's way" published in the Agdam District newspaper. He frequently published works in periodicals throughout his career.

Famil Mehdi is one of the authors of the textbook "Issues of Journalism" for university students. He has also authored monographs and textbooks, including "The Fiery Publicist Samad Vurghun", "The Artistic Problems of Azerbaijani Literary Publicism", "Publicism in the Press", and "Artistic Publicism".

The National Library of Azerbaijan has presented an exhibition titled "Professor Famil Mehdi – 90", showcasing his works, as well as literature in both Azerbaijani and Russian on his life, career, and creative output. The exhibition also features articles published in periodicals and musical scores set to his poetry.
