March 10 is National Theater Day. Today, Azerbaijani theater celebrates the 152nd anniversary of its establishment.

On this occasion, a virtual exhibition titled “March 10 - National Theater Day” was presented to users online at the National Library.

The virtual exhibition features articles, photos, and books published in periodicals about the decree “On the Establishment of National Theater Day in the Republic of Azerbaijan”, the ancient and rich historical path of Azerbaijani theater art, the creation of a professional national theater, theater encyclopedias, theater anthologies, the activities of art centers in our individual cities, etc.

It should be noted that Azerbaijani theater art has passed an ancient and rich historical path. The foundation of professional theater in Azerbaijan, as well as in the entire Muslim East, was laid in 1873 in Baku with the preparation of M.F. Akhundzadeh's comedy "The Vizier of the Khan of Lankaran" at the initiative of the great educator Hasan bey Zardabi and the prominent writer Najaf bey Vezirov.

On March 1, 2013, the President of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev signed a decree "On the Establishment of National Theater Day in the Republic of Azerbaijan".
