The Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, in association with ANAS Institute of Linguistics named after Nasimi and Azerbaijan National Library held the presentation of “Afad Gurbanov’s heritage in the field of linguistics” by Sayali Sadigova dedicated to the 90^th anniversary of academician Afad Gurbanov, outstanding linguist, scholar, turkologist, public figure, author of the current Azerbaijani alphabet and the founder of the Onomastics Science School.

First, participants of the event got acquainted with book exhibition entitled “Remarkable linguist-scholar Afad Gurbanov” dedicated to the 90^th anniversary of the outstanding linguist and public figure Afad Gurbanov.

Director of the National Library prof. Karim Tahirov welcomed the participants of the event. In his speech, the director said that remarkable scholar, Azerbaijani studies researcher and world-renowned turkologist Afad Gurbanov is the author of valuable studies in the fields of Turkology, General linguistics and Azerbaijani linguistics. Prof. Karim Tahirov also noted that numerous and voluminous fundamental books written by academician Afad Gurbanov in the field of linguistics, onomalogy, lexicology, speech culture, translation studies, stylistics, high school pedagogy and methodology are valuable resources for scholars and researchers.

Later, academician Mohsun Naghisoylu, Director of ANAS Institute of Linguistics named after Nasimi, talked about Afad Gurbanov’s rich and varied scientific works, as well as his indispensable and productive role in the field of educating young personnel. Academician Mohsun Naghisoylu also mentioned that Afad Gurbanov was a person who raised the Azerbaijan linguistics to the peaks and devoted his life to our language.

Head of the Azerbaijani linguistics Chair of Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University, Doctor of philological sciences, prof. Nizami Khudiyev made a speech on valuable researches of Afad Gurbanov in the field of linguistics and added that he created a great school in Azerbaijani linguistics and educated highly qualified personnel.

Speaking about the invaluable services and achievements of Afad Gurbanov in the formation of new Azerbaijani alphabet with Latin script, Head of Contemporary Azerbaijani language Chair of the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University, Doctor of Philological sciences, prof. Buludkhan Khalilov mentioned that every book written by the scholar turned into a manual book of linguists, scholars, researchers and students. Prof. Buludkhan Khalilov also noted that onomastic conferences had been organized thanks to the special services of academician Afad Gurbanov and those conference materials have been published in a complex.

Doctor of Philological sciences, prof. Sayali Sadigova, author of the monograph, noted that monograph “Afad Gurbanov’s heritage in the field of linguistics” analyzes Afad Gurbanov’s conceptual researches on various areas of linguistics and new alphabet, as well as his career.

Corresponding member of ANAS, prof. Vali Aliyev, Doctor of Philological sciences, prof. Ismayil Mammadli, PhD in Philology Irada Karimova, prof. Asaf Zamanov, People’s poet Nariman Hasanzadeh and others spoke about great contributions of remarkable scholar Afad Gurbanov to Azerbaijan linguistics, as well as his invaluable services in the formation of the new Azerbaijani alphabet with Latin script.

In the end, prof. Ramin Gurbanov made a speech on behalf of academician Afad Gurbanov’s family, Azerbaijani linguist-scholar, turkologist and Honored figure of science, and expressed his deep gratitude to the participants of the event.
