March 8 is the day of international solidarity of women in the struggle for economic, social and political equality. The decision to celebrate Women's Day was made at a meeting held in Copenhagen in 1910 at the suggestion of German politician, human rights defender, journalist Clara Setkin. In 1977, the United Nations officially declared this day as Women's Day.

As a result of continuous measures taken in the direction of increasing the public authority of women, increasing their role in society, and strengthening gender policy, today Azerbaijani women are successfully represented in state institutions, parliament, and municipalities, actively participate in social-political, socio-economic, scientific-cultural processes, and the country's they make great contributions to development in every field.

On the occasion of March 8 - International Women's Day, the staff of the National Library prepared a virtual exhibition called "March 8 - International Women's Day", as well as a traditional book exhibition of the same name.

In the virtual exhibition, famous women who left a mark in history and social and political life of modern Azerbaijan and played an important role, literature on their life and creativity, books written about mothers, women, articles and photos published in periodical press pages are displayed.
