The III International Symposium on Information and Document Management from Tradition to Future, dedicated to the “Year of Solidarity for a Green World”, has begun at Baku State University on the topic of “Information Management and Sustainable Development”. The symposium is being held jointly by Baku State University, Bartin University of Turkiye, Chankırı Karatekin University, and Kastamonu University.
First, the National Anthems of Azerbaijan and Turkiye were played. The dear memories of the great leaders Heydar Aliyev and Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, as well as the martyrs of the Turkic world, were commemorated with a minute of silence.
Co-chair of the symposium from the Azerbaijani side, BSU Vice-Rector for Social Affairs, Student Affairs and Public Relations Alish Aghamirzayev said that the university, founded on September 1, 1919, is not only the main center of science and education in Azerbaijan, but also a temple that plays an important role in the formation and development of national public opinion. BSU, which attaches special importance to the implementation of joint projects with prestigious foreign universities, has a leading role in its international cooperation with the brotherly Republic of Turkey. Over the past 3 years, BSU has signed memorandums covering a wide range of areas with more than 30 well-known universities in Turkey. The III International Symposium on Information and Document Management from Tradition to the Future, which began today and will last for two days, will also contribute to our mutual relations.
Alish Aghamirzayev emphasized that the prestigious symposium, held by universities that train personnel in the specialties of library and information activities, museum and archival work in Turkey, was hosted for the first time by Bartin University in 2022, and by Chankırı Karatekin University in 2023. BSU, which is a co-organizer of both symposia, is hosting the prestigious event this year. In addition to the co-organizing universities, other prestigious universities in Turkiye, including Ankara, Hacettepe, Istanbul, Marmara, Atatürk, and Istanbul 29 Mayıs Universities, also supported the organization of the symposium. The aim of the symposium is to identify priority areas in the field together with universities that train personnel in relevant specialties, and to serve to coordinate academic activities and scientific research.
The co-chair of the symposium from the Turkish side - Head of the Information and Document Management Department of Bartın University, Ahmet Altay, expressed his confidence that the cooperation between the two brotherly countries in relevant fields will be beneficial.
Director of the National Library of Azerbaijan Karim Tahirov, Director of the Central Scientific Library of ANAS Huseyn Huseynov, Heads of Information and Document Management Departments of Kastamonu University, Çankırı Karatekin University, Ataturk University, Istanbul 29 Mayıs University Hasan Sacit Keseroglu, Coshkun Polat, Dundar Alıkılıch, Berrin Balkash Yılmaz, Dean of the Faculty of Information and Document Management of BSU Alemdar Bayramov stated in their speeches that the symposium will make a significant contribution to the relations between Azerbaijan and Turkiye in the fields of science, education, and culture. It was noted that the symposium will present research in document management, information logistics, copyright and related rights, library and information activities, museum, archival work, and other important areas.
At the plenary session of the symposium, Associate Professor of BSU Parviz Kazimi delivered a report on the topic of “Green Library Concept” and Associate Professor of Kastamonu University Güler Demir delivered a report on “Sustainable Development and Green Libraries”.
In total, about 60 reports will be delivered at the event by influential scientists, professors, young researchers representing 17 universities in Azerbaijan, Turkiye and Uzbekistan, as well as employees of the Turkish Ministry of National Education, the Ministry of Culture, a number of municipal libraries, and libraries and museums of our country.
