December 31 is one of the most memorable and honorable days in the history of the Azerbaijani people – World Azerbaijanis Solidarity Day!
World Azerbaijanis Solidarity Day is celebrated by Azerbaijanis in more than 70 countries worldwide. On December 16, 1991, during a session of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, chaired by Heydar Aliyev, a decision was made to celebrate December 31 as World Azerbaijanis Solidarity Day. This holiday plays an important role in establishing connections with Azerbaijanis living in different countries and creating unity and solidarity among them.
Heydar Aliyev, the founder of the idea of solidarity among Azerbaijanis worldwide, also laid the foundation for the institutionalization of this unity. The first World Azerbaijanis Congress was held in Baku on November 9-10, 2001. In 2006, the second congress was held based on a decree from President Ilham Aliyev to discuss issues related to strengthening the connections between Azerbaijanis living abroad and the independent Republic of Azerbaijan, ensuring unity and solidarity among them, and enhancing the activities of Azerbaijani communities, societies, and associations. The third congress took place in 2011, the fourth in 2016, and the fifth in April 2022.
Today, regardless of the country or region where they live, every Azerbaijani's heart beats with pride for independent, victorious Azerbaijan. Thanks to the successful policies and leadership skills of our president, Azerbaijani people worldwide now walk with their heads held high, proudly representing their historical homeland, Azerbaijan.
