On January 30, The Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Azerbaijan National Library in association with the ANAS Institute of History held the presentation of Yagub Mahmudov’s 15-volume “Selected works” and “Yagub Mahmudov. Bibliography”, as well as book collection published by the Institute of history in 2018.

Director of the National Library prof. Karim Tahirov welcomed the guests and noted that 15-volume “Selected works” by academician Yagub Mahmudov, one of the remarkable representatives of contemporary Azerbaijani historiography, active member of ANAS, Honored worker of science, is a significant contribution to history science. In his speech, professor said that “Yagub Mahmudov. Bibliography” includes all scientific works – monographs, books, booklets, textbooks, articles and speeches, interviews and other materials starting from his first pen experience about his life and works until 2018. Prof. Karim Tahirov also mentioned that Yagub Mahmudov laid the foundations of the national ideology in the Azerbaijan history science and created a new school. Representatives of that school conduct researches and studies that serve to the Azerbaijani science and Azerbaijani statehood.

Vagif Aliyev, First Deputy Minister of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, noted that that well-designed “Selected works” by Yagub Mahmudov is a collection reflecting the realities of our history. In his speech, Mr. Aliyev also noted that 15-volume collection covers a very large period starting from 1966 to 2017, and each volume contains scientific-researches reflecting the ancient and medieval history of Azerbaijan, its diplomacy, historical relations and independence, as well as nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev’s socio-political activity.

In her speech academic-secretary of ANAS Social sciences Department, Doctor of historical sciences, academician Nargiz Akhundova said that Yagub Mahmudov’s “Selected works” consisting of 15 volumes, which were published during 2011-2017, has a special place in the history of Azerbaijan.

Member of Parliament, prof. Fazail Ibrahimli stated that in those books, external policy and diplomatic relations of Aghgoyunlu and Safavid dynasties, the history of Azerbaijan diplomacy, ethnic-political history of the Azerbaijani people, Azerbaijan statehood traditions and Renaissance culture, historical territories of Azerbaijan and its integral part Karabakh, ethnic and political history, economic development stages and culture of Nakhchivan and Erivan, Heydar Aliyev’s personality, forward-looking internal and external policy of his successor, president Ilham Aliyev, and other issues have been reviewed by Yagub Mahmudov.

Member of Parliament, prof. Elman Nasirli talked a lot on Yagub Mahmudov’s teaching activity.

In his speech, Head of chair at BSU, prof. Anar Isgandarov said that Yagub Mahmudov’s scientific works are the greatest wealth of the scholar, and added that even if the time has changed, each of his works has kept its relevance in the history of Azerbaijan from the Soviet time up to now.

Later, Deputy Director of ANAS Institute of History prof. Jabi Bahramov and Deputy Director of ANAS Institute of History, Doctor of historical sciences Tofig Najafli spoke about the outstanding scholar’s researches.

In the end, Honored worker of science, Member of Parliament, academician Yagub Mahmudov expressed his deep gratitude to the participants of the event and to the staff of the National Library, and noted that every time, Azerbaijan history was and is highly appreciated by the great leader Heydar Aliyev and his political follower, President Ilham Aliyev.
