March 31 is the Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis. Between March 30 and April 3, 1918, Baku Soviet and Armenian armed groups dashnaks committed genocide against Azerbaijanis in Baku and adjacent areas of Baku Governorate, as well as in Shamakhi, Guba, Khachmaz, Lankaran, Hajigabul, Salyan, Zangazur, Karabakh, Nakhchivan and other areas. According to official sources, as a result of the genocide, about 12,000 Azerbaijanis were killed and tens of thousands were missing.
During the March massacres, Armenians destroyed many ancient buildings, historical monuments and shrines, and the Ismailia building, considered one of the pearls of world architecture.
The Azerbaijani people will never forget their heroic daughters and sons!
On the occasion of that historic day, a virtual exhibition entitled “31 March – Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis” has been prepared by the staff of the National Library of Azerbaijan. The virtual exhibition features books, articles, and photos on the topic.
