November 16 is celebrated as the International Day of Tolerance.
The International Day of Tolerance was established in 1995 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of UNESCO.
In the Declaration, tolerance means respect, acceptance and understanding of the rich diversity of world cultures, our forms of self-expression and ways of expressing human individuality. The Declaration declares that human beings are inherently different in appearance, position, speech, behavior and values, and that they have the right to live in peace and to preserve their individuality.
The declaration examines the threats posed by intolerance to people, presents methods and programs for combating intolerance.
The purpose of establishing this day, as stated in the organization's charter, is to call everyone in the world to live as friendly neighbors by showing tolerance to each other.
Azerbaijan is now known all over the world as an example of tolerance. The measures implemented by the great leader Heydar Aliyev in the direction of preserving tolerance in our country have turned Azerbaijan into a meeting ground of various national and cultural values.
Azerbaijan is now one of the rare countries in the world where all nations, peoples, and representatives of all religions live as one family.
By seeing the strength of the state in the multinational population, the coexistence of various religions, cultures and civilizations, the President of Azerbaijan shows the whole world that tolerance is in the spirit of the Azerbaijani people.
On the occasion of the International Day of Tolerance, a virtual exhibition called "November 16 - International Day of Tolerance" was prepared by the staff of the National Library of Azerbaijan named after M.F. Akhundzade.
In a virtual exhibition, photographs, books on the subject and articles published in periodicals are displayed.
